Sarah and Salem are arguing about the toy, but at the end, there is another purpose behind while meeting Their parents.

As soon as we hit play on this film, we could tell that ‘My Toy’ would be a compelling film. This is in part due to the high production standard set out by director Mazen Haj Kassem, who delivers a compelling drama that has a sense of realism and depth that’s hard to create. Considering the short run time and steady pace, the film hits on all the right notes and will draw audiences in.

The film has a solid cast that work with the source material exceedingly well. Both Hassan El Sayed and Silja Ellemann Kiehne deliver dramatic performances that really make a connection with the viewer. The child actors also do very well considering the topic of the film, something each of them should be praised for. Kassem chose well with putting the right people in this film.

The writing is subtle yet poignant, allowing for the natural emotion to lead much of the story. What’s most interesting is that the film is based off true events currently taking place in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. It gives the film an element of significance and awareness for those not familiar with the adoption situation that is taking place today. The film is written in a way that keeps the topic well balanced and relatable for the characters.

As for the production, its filmed with precision by DOP Thomas Korsholm who creates a moody and raw look to the film that adds significant value. The same can be said of the colour grade that matches the tone of the film perfectly. The sound in the film is of a high standard and the music composition from Sune Kolster is outstanding. It gives the film a distinct identity that is moving and powerful which elevates the performances.

Overall this is a fantastic watch with a captivating story behind it. The filmmakers took their time to craft this in a way that is compelling to watch and honest. We hope more get to see it as it will raise awareness for an important issue…
